KARO BROMO CELEBRATION



In the second month according to the Tengger calendar, the Tengger people hold a Karo celebration. This celebration is intended to express gratitude to Sang Hyang Widi Wasa who has created two types of creatures with different genders, namely male and female (kekarone), as their ancestors. In this celebration, the spirits of the ancestors are invited and given offerings to protect the matchmaking between wong loro (male and female) and their family members. This Karo celebration is also called Riyaya (holiday) Karo. On this holiday, the Tengger people visit each other from house to house. 

Regarding the origin of this Karo celebration, the Tengger people have several different versions. Some Tengger people believe that this celebration is to commemorate the death of two servants named Setya and Setuhu. However, several Dukun, especially those living in Ngadisari and the surrounding area ( Ortepro Dukun ) have recently stated firmly that the legend of Ajisaka-Mohammad does not exist.
